Swimming
The Pavilion Swimming Programme
offers three different levels to cater for all ages
and levels of competency.
Learn to Swim Level
This level accustoms children
aged 4 – 5 years to the deep end of the pool,
enables children to feel more comfortable in and
around the pool, and teaches children water safety.
To pass this programme, swimmers must be able to
independently swim 25 metres or more.
Stroke Development Level
Children aged 5 years and above
are placed in different levels based on their
ability and age. Each stage is designed to reach
different targets.
Stage 1 - Children aged 5 – 6 years learn the
foundations of front crawl and backstroke.
Stage 2 - Swimmers aged 6 – 8 years continue to work
on the front crawl and backstroke, as well as
breaststroke.
Stage 3 - Swimmers aged 8 – 11 years continue to
develop previously learned strokes, as well as being
introduced to the butterfly stroke. A combination of
all strokes – ‘Individual Medley’ – is also
introduced. Swimmers are also introduced to
endurance swimming with 400 metres front crawl, some
light fitness work, as well as starts and turns for
competitions.
Competition Level
Swimmers are introduced to all
aspects of competitive swimming including tumble
turns, open turns, race starts, individual medley
transitions, rules and regulations, disqualification
criteria, and more. This programme is aimed at
swimmers aged 11 years and above that are capable of
enduring medium to hard intensity swimming training.
