Room
There aren’t many places in Dubai that you can
eat and drink to your heart’s content for less than 100 AED, but we
have discovered a restaurant in Bur Dubai that offers delicious
food, free flowing house beverages, and a warm, buzzing ambience –
all for 99 AED.
The Sizzling Wok – based in the Citymax Hotel, Bur Dubai – offers
its ‘Ying & Yang’ unlimited set menu every night. Based on the
Chinese philosophy of ‘balance’ the set menu changes every night and
includes a soup, appetiser, main courses and sides, and a dessert –
and customers can order as much as they like between 8pm and 10pm,
along with unlimited house beverages.
It might not compete with the setting of those 5* hotels on the
other end of town, but we were instantly impressed with the
comfortable booths, warm colour palette, and oriental décor. By 9pm,
almost every table was filled, which lent the restaurant a great
atmosphere.
We started with Hoi Sin Vegetable soup – it was simple, yet full of
flavour. Quickly afterwards, a traditional wooden box arrived at our
table, filled with vegetable, seafood, and chicken Dim Sum. We can
sometimes find Dim Sum a little heavy, but these were beautifully
light and well seasoned. Main courses were a table-filling selection
of Red Thai Curry, Black Bean Lamb, Garlic Butter Fish, Rice,
Noodles, and a deliciously crispy dish of green vegetables. We were
starting to feel quite full, so it was a relief to discover that our
desert was a selection of exotic fruit.
Don’t expect to be handed dishes that are groundbreaking nor
complicated, as that simply isn’t what Sizzling Wok is about. But
for an almost unbelievable price, you won’t be disappointed.
